Apthorp & Union Street District

You may have attended a baseball or softball game or other outdoor event at Apthorp Common, a large park situated just off Union Street between Redington and Ely streets. But did you know that Apthorp was one of the community’s original names (the other was Chiswick, a Saxon word meaning Cheese Farm!), until the town was incorporated as Littleton in 1784?

Today, Apthorp Common is a historic reminder that our picturesque White Mountains community has strong roots that stretch from past to present, representing generations of families and the many businesses that have flourished here and continue to do so today.

The Union Street and Brook Road area around Apthorp Common is well worth a second look. Home to both long-established and newer businesses, this section of town also includes restaurants, spas, retail stores along with glimpses of mountain vistas and the sparkling Ammonoosuc River as you meander east from downtown Littleton via Union Street (Route 116).
