Littleton’s River District Embraces Nature, Art, Food, Craft Beer & Much More!
The easiest and most fun way to access Littleton’s River District is through one of the two arched gateways on Main Street where, during warm weather months, brilliantly colored floating umbrellas lead you directly to Mill Street and the town’s inviting Riverwalk.
Bookended by a covered bridge on one end and a suspension bridge on the other, Riverwalk invites visitors to meander along a gravel footpath with beautiful views of the Ammonoosuc River. Relax and unwind with wildflowers, birdsong and rushing water as your guide. The Mill Street side of the river has a paved walk and stopping points with delightful glimpses of the river. Be sure to make a stop at Harmony Park and try out the outdoor musical instruments.
You can also catch views of the river while relaxing at the River District’s café and bakery, coffee and tea shop, or its brewery and tasting room. Music and art have a prominent place here, with several art and fine craft galleries, a music venue, and studios where classes include jewelry, basket making, pottery, painting and more.
On Sunday mornings, June to October, the Littleton Farmers Market vendors set up on one side of the covered bridge to sell their fresh vegetables, fruits, locally raised organic meats, cheeses, bread, flowers, wool products, handcrafted items, baked goods and more.
Just before Halloween, the Ammonoosuc takes on a fiery hue one evening as hundreds of carved pumpkins are lit and set out on rocks in the river and along its banks during the Gathering of the Jack O’Lanterns, a wonderful family event.
